Grass Family Deck — Learn Pokémon TCG (Standard 2026)

Family & Friends
Standard 2026 (Regulation H / I / J)
~$12–$18 in singles
Beginner

Format: Standard 2026 (Regulation Marks H / I / J) Archetype cost: roughly $12–$18 in singles Difficulty: Beginner — a multi-stage evolution + status teaching deck

This is the "status & stall" half of the Water vs. Grass Battle Box — an all-commons kitchen-table deck that teaches you to lock your opponent down with status conditions. You grow Wurmple into Beautifly (or Dustox), then use status effects to keep the other player from acting while you chip away. It's a ~40-card intro deck built to learn on.

Family & Friends rule: this deck contains no ex, no Mega, no ACE SPEC, and no holo/chase cards — commons, uncommons, and regular rares only. Affordable, sharable, and easy to learn.

The Deck List (40 cards · intro deck)

Every card carries a legal H / I / J regulation mark, verified against the card catalog. This is a beginner teaching deck — a focused 40 cards rather than a full 60.

Total: 40 cards.

Notes:

  • Beautifly's Stun Spore uses a coin flip. If you want this box to be 100% coin-flip-free to contrast cleanly with the Water deck, Beautifly needs a non-flip status replacement — flagged for a follow-up Grass-status search.

Deliberately excluded (do NOT add): Poké Ball and Pokémon Catcher have no confirmed legal printing in this pool — use the Ancient Scroll items above. Golduck (ASC 40) has an unverified regulation mark and is left out until checked.

What This Deck Teaches You

  • Multi-stage evolution. Wurmple → Silcoon → Beautifly (or Wurmple → Cascoon → Dustox) — a full three-stage line, one step up from a simple evolution.
  • Branching evolution. Wurmple can become two different Pokémon — a great lesson that your choices mid-game matter.
  • Status conditions. Paralysis and Poison (via Stun Spore / Dustox) teach you to win without just dealing damage — lock the opponent down and let the board do the work.

Your First Few Turns

  1. Get Wurmple down with Buddy-Buddy Poffin or Ultra Ball.
  2. Attach a Grass Energy every turn.
  3. Decide your branch — evolve toward Beautifly (offense + Paralysis) or Dustox (Poison + disruption).
  4. Apply status. Paralyze or poison their Active Pokémon so they can't fight back cleanly.
  5. Chip and stall until you've taken all your Prizes.

How to Play It

You're the disruptive one. Against the Water deck in the box (which wants to control tempo), your job is to lock its attacker down with status so it can never set up its energy-denial rhythm. Patience wins.
